We’re tired and disoriented from zig-zagging through the woods all night. It’s tough, because I want to conserve our gas and I want to keep to the old logging roads so I can maintain my bearings. I also want to confuse anybody who might be on our trail.

It’s also tough because Tatima has been plastered against me for hours. Except for the fast-as-possible stops we’ve made, she’s had her front to my back, her arms around my waist, and her thighs squeezing my hips for enough teeth-chattering hours that it’s hard to remember my own name.

We finally stopped to rest and stretch our legs. I found one of those old-style tractor trailers that had been abandoned, with a bed in the back and everything. Big time dusty in there, but otherwise okay. I’m not convinced we’d make it to the next spot on Noah’s map by daybreak. She says she can take some sunlight if she has to, but I want to save trying something like that for an emergency.

I wonder if Noah’s okay. I’m grateful to him for helping. This little bike moves surprisingly fast. Tomorrow we’ll be outside of Boston if we can maintain our pace. On foot I doubt we’d have survived.
